angryspartan A game, and soundtrack, in great tribute to the 8-bit Tecmo and Sunsoft games of the 80s. Each track carries emotion and purpose. Favorite track: Disposal Facility.

TallNerdGuy As much as I loved the gameplay and story of Cyber Shadow, this soundtrack was the big highlight for me. It captured so many different moods throughout its vast tracklist…driven motivation, somber reflection, impending doom, etc. These themes also seemed to draw inspiration from the vibes of legendary game soundtracks, such as Batman (NES), Streets of Rage 2, and Shinobi 3. When I first heard “Outskirts,” it was like I was a kid again, experiencing SOR2 for the first time. Favorite track: Outskirts.

Deferent Golgi Pentadrangle crafts an absolutely sprawling 8-bit opus honoring the high-energy, melodic wizardry of NES-era ninja music specialists like Keiji Yamagishi, with a bass-rich production that would do Sunsoft proud. Full of danger, melancholy determination, and many shuriken. Favorite track: Geothermal Towers pt. 1 The Theme of Shadow.

agentmindstorm This album is a prime example of modern chiptune DONE TO PERFECTION! The myriad level tunes are super catchy and fun to hear on repeat. Research Lab pt. 2 (or Onward, as I like to call it) is my favorite for its less upbeat but ultimately hopeful melody. Favorite track: Research Lab pt.2.
